Human Rights Violations in Yemen: Houthi Militia’s Ongoing Abductions
The Justice and Development Bridges Organization has condemned the Houthi militia’s continued abduction and enforced disappearance of over 200 individuals in the provinces of Ibb and Dhamar. The organization has called for the immediate and unconditional release of all kidnapped and forcibly disappeared persons.
Ongoing Detention of Civilians
In a recent statement, the organization expressed deep concern over the ongoing detention of hundreds of abducted individuals. Reports indicate that more than 100 civilians remain in custody in Dhamar, alongside dozens of others arbitrarily detained in Ibb and various other provinces. These actions represent a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights treaties.
Suffering of the Abducted
The organization condemned the severe humanitarian and psychological suffering experienced by the abducted individuals. Many face arbitrary sentences, while their families endure the anguish of being denied visitation and communication rights. Such practices constitute a grave violation of fundamental rights and freedoms.
Call for International Intervention
The organization urged authorities to disclose the fate of the forcibly disappeared individuals and to halt all forms of torture and mistreatment within detention facilities. It also called on the United Nations and international human rights organizations to fulfill their legal and humanitarian responsibilities. They must exert pressure to secure the release of all abducted individuals and hold accountable those responsible for these violations, ensuring justice for victims and their families.
Widespread Abduction Campaign
The organization highlighted that the Houthi militia has been conducting a widespread abduction campaign since May and June of last year. This campaign has targeted teachers, educators, academics, human rights activists, and engineers across several provinces. Such actions underscore the ongoing violations against civilians and their exposure to danger in the absence of legal protections.
