A joint meeting took place today in Taiz, bringing together Governor Nabil Shamsan, Chief Judge Razaz of the Appeals Court, and Chief Prosecutor Mohammed Sultan. The discussion focused on the implementation of a decision to regulate rental prices for residential properties in the province.
During the meeting, which also included Chief Public Prosecutor Abdul Wahab Al-Shaibani and several judges from local courts, Governor Shamsan expressed his appreciation for the judges’ involvement in enforcing rental price controls. He highlighted the exceptional circumstances in Taiz, exacerbated by war, blockades, and economic difficulties. These challenges have led to increased suffering, prompting the need to protect the community from exploitation and the greed of landlords. Shamsan emphasized that the significant rent increases are unacceptable and must be curtailed.
Governor Shamsan stated, “The suffering and the calculation of contracts in the national currency since the beginning of 2024 require judges to contribute to protecting the community from exploitation and practices that threaten its security and stability.” He urged the judiciary to issue directives for the implementation of the governor’s decision and to apply it in court proceedings.
In response, Chief Judge Razaz affirmed that the decision reinforces religious teachings and laws designed to protect the community from exploitation while considering citizens’ interests. He noted that there is a consensus on the importance of this decision and the need to serve the public. Razaz assured that the judiciary would collaborate to alleviate these hardships by convening meetings with judges across all courts and issuing directives for the implementation of this decision amid the province’s challenging conditions.
Attendees at the meeting voiced their support for the decision through various comments and discussions about its significance in reducing escalating disputes. The collaborative effort aims to stabilize the housing situation in Taiz and safeguard residents from unfair rental practices.
This meeting marks a critical step toward addressing the pressing issue of rental prices in Taiz, reflecting a commitment to uphold justice and protect the rights of citizens in the face of ongoing challenges.
