On Friday, the Israeli military launched a series of extensive airstrikes against Hezbollah targets in the Tyre region of southern Lebanon. This military action followed urgent evacuation warnings issued for five towns in the vicinity, escalating an already tense situation in the area.
The Israeli military confirmed that the airstrikes were aimed at Hezbollah’s infrastructure surrounding the city of Tyre. Reports from media sources indicate that at least two strikes hit the outskirts of the city, while a third targeted a non-governmental organization’s center located near a hospital. This particular strike has raised significant concerns among local residents regarding the safety of civilians in the area.
In response to the escalating conflict, residents of the following towns received immediate evacuation orders:
Israel has justified these military actions by citing a “violation of the ceasefire agreement” by Hezbollah, asserting its commitment to act “forcefully” against the group’s positions. This escalation occurs amid heightened security tensions in the region.
The Lebanese National News Agency reported that Israeli aircraft also struck the town of Qusair early Friday. This coincided with artillery fire targeting the outskirts of Qalaouiyeh and Burj Qalaouiyeh. Furthermore, heavy machine gun fire was directed at the Wadi al-Hijjar area and the vicinity of the towns of Faroun and al-Ghandouriya.
In a related development, Israel conducted a series of airstrikes on Marj al-Safa in Shoukin and Nabatiyeh al-Fawqa during the previous night. These strikes resulted in the destruction of an entire neighborhood, which included residential buildings and the municipal center, alongside intense artillery bombardment in Mifdoun and the surrounding areas of Nabatiyeh al-Fawqa.
This military escalation unfolds as discussions continue in Washington between representatives from Lebanon and Israel. Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 10-day ceasefire in mid-April, which was subsequently extended for three weeks. However, renewed clashes in the region have underscored the complexities of the ongoing situation.
