Yemen stands at the forefront of the global fight against terrorism, which poses a significant threat to international peace and security. Interior Minister Major General Ibrahim Haidan emphasized this point during his speech at a high-level conference on enhancing international cooperation to combat terrorism. The event, titled “Strengthening International Cooperation in Counter-Terrorism and Building Resilient Border Security Mechanisms – The Kuwait Phase of the Dushanbe Process,” took place in Kuwait and included notable attendees such as Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon and Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled.
Minister Haidan stressed the urgent need for regional and international collaboration to address the growing threat of terrorism. He urged nations to unify their efforts to curb extremism and secure borders. A primary focus of his address was the need to disrupt smuggling operations, which serve as a significant source of funding for terrorist groups, particularly in relation to arms and finances. He also pointed out the dire humanitarian conditions facing the Yemeni people, exacerbated by the Houthi militia’s actions that have devastated the country’s infrastructure.
The security situation in Yemen demands ongoing international support, according to Minister Haidan. He called for logistical assistance, information sharing, and financial aid to strengthen the Yemeni government’s capacity to combat terrorism and secure its borders. The minister appealed to the international community for more comprehensive efforts to support Yemen in its war against terrorism, aiming to restore stability to the region and ensure border security against rising terrorist threats.
The conference’s opening session also saw the participation of Yemen’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Dr. Ali Mansour bin Saffar, along with Major General Mohammed Musaid Al-Amir, the Deputy Minister of Interior for Security and Police, and Major General Ahmed Al-Zahiri, the Director General of Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime. Their presence underscored the importance of the discussions held at this significant event.
This conference marks a critical step in uniting global efforts to combat terrorism and enhance security measures, particularly in regions like Yemen that face unique challenges. The collaboration aims to build a more secure future, free from the threats posed by extremist groups.
