Child Killed by Landmine Explosion in Taiz
A 12-year-old boy was killed in the village of Al-Athir in the Jabal Habashi district of Taiz Governorate due to the explosion of a landmine planted by Houthi militia, according to local sources.
The sources reported that the child, Shoaib Ali Thabit, was herding livestock at the time of the explosion, which resulted in his immediate death.
Warnings About the Expansion of Landmine Planting
The Yemeni Landmine Observatory stated that the Houthi militia has intensified landmine planting operations in extensive rural areas of Taiz Governorate in recent days. This activity poses a direct threat to civilian lives, particularly for livestock herders and residents who rely on secondary roads for transportation.
The observatory expressed real concerns about the potential for more casualties, noting that the deployment of landmines and disguised explosive devices in mountainous areas, secondary roads, and the homes of displaced persons increasingly endangers the lives of residents.
Calls to Stop Landmine Planting and Raise Awareness
The observatory urged the Houthi militia to immediately cease these practices, remove the planted landmines, and deactivate explosive devices in rural Taiz.
Additionally, residents of rural areas were advised to exercise caution and educate children about the dangers of approaching or touching suspicious objects to ensure their safety.
