Public Prosecution Releases 148 Prisoners in Aden

In a significant move, the Public Prosecution in Aden has released 148 prisoners who met the legal criteria for conditional release. This decision aligns with directives from the President of the Presidential Leadership Council and follows a memorandum from the Attorney General of the Republic, Judge Qaher Mustafa, in celebration of the holy month of Ramadan.

Details of the Release

Dr. Nasser Al-Sabahi, head of the Prisons Department at the Public Prosecution, provided insights into the release process. According to a statement published on the Public Prosecution’s official website, the release included 102 prisoners who had served more than three-quarters of their sentences and 46 prisoners who had completed half of their sentences. This action adheres to existing laws that permit conditional release for those who fulfill the necessary requirements, particularly in non-serious cases.

Importantly, the release did not include individuals convicted of serious crimes such as terrorism, money laundering, and drug trafficking. This exclusion aims to maintain judicial and security integrity while ensuring the stability of the legal system.

Ongoing Efforts for Other Inmates

Furthermore, Judge Al-Sabahi emphasized the Public Prosecution’s commitment to addressing the cases of 317 prisoners who remain incarcerated despite completing their legal sentences. He confirmed that efforts are underway to coordinate with heads of prosecution offices across liberated provinces to initiate their release. This process is set to begin on Sunday, March 9, 2025.

The recent release of prisoners in Aden reflects a broader commitment to justice and rehabilitation, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. The Public Prosecution continues to prioritize the rights of inmates while ensuring that serious offenders remain accountable for their actions.
