In a series of tragic incidents in Al-Jawf, northeastern Yemen, a young man and a woman from the Bani Nof tribes lost their lives due to attacks and landmines planted by Houthi militants.
Local sources report that Houthi elements at the “Al-Muhair” checkpoint in the Al-Mahashima area of Al-Khab and Al-Shaaf district shot and killed Dhiab Ali Al-Qafra as he passed through the checkpoint. This incident is part of a disturbing trend of assaults targeting tribal members. Al-Qafra belonged to the Bani Nof tribes, who have faced repeated violations at the hands of the militia.
In a separate incident, Ali Ahmed Al-Shammar’s wife died after stepping on a landmine left by the militia in the Al-Masloub district. This explosion marks another civilian casualty in the province. The victim, a mother of five, also hailed from the Bani Nof tribes. In response, the tribes have urged Houthi authorities to dispatch engineering teams to remove the landmines and secure the area urgently.
The tribes issued a statement emphasizing that the continued presence of landmines poses a direct threat to the lives of local residents. Women, children, and farmers face daily risks due to these explosives. The tribes hold the Houthi militia accountable for the delays in addressing this critical danger.
Al-Jawf province has witnessed a steady increase in civilian casualties due to militia violations at checkpoints and the indiscriminate placement of landmines across vast areas. The situation remains dire, with local communities calling for immediate action to ensure their safety.
