The organization Equality for Rights and Freedoms has reported that Houthi militias, supported by the Iranian regime, have kidnapped nine civilians from various districts of Dhammar Province within the last 24 hours. Notably, a majority of the victims are affiliated with the educational sector, raising concerns about the safety of professionals in the region.
Details of the Abductions
In a detailed statement, the organization identified the abducted individuals as follows: Khaled Ahmed Al-Sarahi (50), Abdul-Ilah Mohammed Al-Houli (48), Ibrahim Ahmed Al-Najdi (50), Abdullah Mohammed Halah (42), Mohammed Ismail Al-Rakhmi (57), Ali Ahmed Jabal (56), Ahmed Lutfi (60), Adel Sheikh (58), and Ali Zandal (40).
Furthermore, the organization revealed that over 100 civilians from Dhammar remain in captivity, enduring severe health and psychological conditions within militia prisons. Among these detainees, 19 young men have faced death sentences since April 2020. Additional alarming statistics include 55 civilians, including elderly individuals, detained since October 2025. The organization also highlighted that three teachers have been imprisoned for nearly a decade, while five others have been forcibly disappeared since 2015.
Systematic Campaign of Terror
According to the organization, this recent wave of abductions is part of a systematic policy employed by the militias to instill terror and silence the civilian population. The militias conduct home raids, instill fear in families, and confiscate property. These actions represent a series of complex crimes, including arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, and violations of residential sanctity. Such practices violate international laws and treaties, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance.
