A prominent figure within the Houthi militia has unlawfully seized land belonging to the endowment authority in Al-Mudaykhirah, located in western Ibb Governorate. This act highlights the ongoing pattern of systematic land grabs and theft of public properties in the region.
Local sources confirm that the Houthi official, identified as Ahmed Abdu Ali, unlawfully occupied a plot of land in the Khamees Al-Afiyosh area. He has since exploited this land by leasing portions to vendors, including poultry sellers, without any legal justification.
Reports indicate that this land grab occurred with the complicity and silence of the militia-appointed director of the endowment authority in the district, Moammar Al-Zamar. His ties to the aggressor suggest a conflict of interest, reflecting a significant lack of oversight regarding violations against public properties.
Local residents have urgently called on relevant authorities in the governorate to intervene and halt these aggressions. They demand accountability for all individuals involved in the land seizure, emphasizing the need to protect citizens’ rights and ensure the restoration of their properties.
Since the Houthi militia took control of Ibb Governorate in the fall of 2014, the region has witnessed a dramatic increase in violations against endowment lands. Allegations have surfaced against Houthi leaders and local power brokers for orchestrating these infringements, amid a complete absence of action from the endowment office and other responsible entities that should safeguard public properties.
