Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms Reports Attacks
On Thursday, the Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms announced that Houthi militias launched a mortar attack on residential areas in the Al-Had district of Lahij province, located in southern Yemen. This assault occurred on the evening of the previous day.
Damage and Impact on Civilians
The network reported that several villages in the Al-Haid area suffered damage due to the shelling. Homes were affected, property was destroyed, and residents experienced significant fear and anxiety as a result of the attacks.
Condemnation of War Crimes
The network condemned these actions, labeling them as a systematic policy aimed at instilling terror and undermining security and stability. It emphasized that targeting densely populated residential areas with heavy and indiscriminate weaponry constitutes a war crime under the Geneva Conventions and represents a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.
Call for International Action
The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms warned of the severe humanitarian consequences stemming from these assaults. It urged the international community, the United Nations, and the UN envoy to Yemen to take immediate action. The network called for pressure on the militias to cease targeting civilians and to hold those responsible for these violations accountable.
The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms asserts that the Houthi shelling of residential areas in Lahij constitutes a war crime, necessitating urgent international intervention.
