The Houthi militia has introduced new restrictions on weddings and social gatherings in Ibb Governorate, intensifying their ongoing campaign against citizens in areas under their control. These measures highlight a troubling escalation in violations against the local population, significantly impacting their daily lives.
Local sources report that, in recent weeks, the militia has prohibited wedding processions from traversing the streets of Ibb City. Additionally, they have begun extorting wedding organizers and vehicles participating in these processions. This crackdown has resulted in the abduction of several residents and the detention of numerous vehicles. Such actions illustrate the militia’s determination to exert control over social activities.
Moreover, the militia has banned wedding photographers from using drones. They have compelled photographers to sign agreements that prevent aerial photography, disrupting their livelihoods and denying them opportunities for work. This restriction underscores the ongoing violations against personal and professional freedoms.
These actions form part of a broader pattern of abuses perpetrated by the militia in the governorate. Their aim appears to be the imposition of financial levies and tighter control over social activities. Amid a complete absence of legal standards, the Houthis continue to exploit citizens and exert pressure on them, exacerbating their suffering and reflecting the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the areas they govern.
