On Monday, Houthi militias demolished the home of citizen Qasim Ahmed Mansar Al-Dawadi in Hajjah province, northwest Yemen. This act left his family homeless and sparked widespread outrage in local communities.
Local sources reported that Qasim’s house, located in the Brier Bani Dawood area of the Kusher district, faced destruction at the hands of militia members. These actions reportedly followed orders from Abu Mohammed Al-Qasimi, who falsely claims to be the provincial security director. Furthermore, the militia not only demolished the home but also pursued and arrested anyone who condemned the act or expressed solidarity with the affected family. This behavior highlights the oppressive policies imposed on citizens.
Witnesses noted that the demolition terrified women and children, who were forcibly removed from their home, a historical structure built nearly a century ago and passed down through generations. This crime occurred without any legal justification.
This incident follows a series of similar attacks in recent days. These included the demolition of a woman’s home in Raymah, assaults on citizens in Ibb province, and threats to blow up other homes in Amran after surrounding them. Such actions reveal the ongoing violations committed by Houthi militias against civilians.
Since their takeover in 2014, Houthi militias have continued to demolish, loot, and blow up citizens’ homes, constituting widespread human rights violations. The Civilian Authority for Victims of Home Explosions has documented approximately 884 incidents of home demolitions across 16 Yemeni provinces over the past decade. These statistics underscore the brutality of these practices.
These actions represent a blatant violation of international human rights standards and call for international intervention to hold those responsible accountable. The global community must put an end to these crimes and support the Yemeni people’s right to live with dignity and security.
