Meeting Addresses Gas Crisis in Aden

A meeting held today in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen, focused on the ongoing gas crisis. The session, led by Abdulrahman Sheikh, the Minister of State and Governor of Aden, aimed to discuss strategies for regulating gas distribution and mitigating market disruptions. The goal is to ensure that the allocated quantities of domestic gas reach citizens consistently and fairly.

Emphasis on Strict Compliance

During the meeting, which included local security officials and representatives from the gas sector, participants emphasized the importance of adhering to designated quotas and approved distribution mechanisms. This commitment aims to alleviate the crisis and prevent any violations that could impact citizens’ needs.

Review of Gas Pump Conditions

The meeting reviewed a report from a committee established by the governor to assess the condition of gas pumps in the province. The report revealed that out of 166 gas pumps, only 10 met the required standards. Additionally, 73 pumps need corrective actions, while 72 must be completely removed for failing to comply with regulations. Eleven other pumps remain under construction and have been halted.

Action Plan for Non-Compliant Pumps

Governor Sheikh instructed security agencies and district managers to monitor the status of non-compliant gas pumps within their jurisdictions. He urged them to take necessary legal actions against these establishments. Furthermore, he discussed the outcomes of conversations with the Cabinet regarding the potential reopening of gas imports, which could help ease the crisis and meet market demands.

Commitment to Prioritize Gas Supply

The Minister of State and Governor of Aden reiterated the need for all relevant authorities to exert maximum effort and maintain continuous coordination between local government, security forces, and specialized agencies. This collaboration aims to regulate gas distribution and address existing discrepancies. Sheikh stressed that providing domestic gas to citizens remains a top priority, and the local authority will not hesitate to implement necessary measures to ensure it reaches those in need while curbing practices that exacerbate the crisis.
