Houthi escalation forces 227 families to flee from camps in Mawza, west of Taiz.

227 Families Displaced Due to Houthi Escalation in Taiz

Recent military escalations by Houthi forces have forced 227 families to flee from displacement camps in the Mawza district of western Taiz governorate. This mass displacement occurred on August 25 and 26, according to a report from the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Details of Forced Displacement

The displacement tracking matrix revealed that the evacuation affected three sites for displaced persons following intensified clashes and shelling in surrounding areas. The transfers included:

  • 120 families relocated from the Tamara site to the Al-Suwaida camp in the Al-Aresh village of the Al-Awashqa district, approximately 7 kilometers away.
  • 53 families moved from the Al-Mahrah site to the same camp.
  • 54 families transferred from the Bani Fatini site to the Bani Rajeh camp in the same village and district, about 5 kilometers away.

Urgent Humanitarian Needs

The IOM emphasized that the sudden relocation created immediate humanitarian and shelter needs for families in their new displacement sites. These needs include:

  • Emergency shelter
  • Basic household items
  • Food supplies
  • Water and sanitation services
  • Healthcare and protection services

Ongoing Escalation Threatening Civilians

This displacement occurs amid escalating hostilities, including missile attacks and artillery shelling by Houthi forces targeting front lines and villages surrounding the displacement camps in the Mawza district. This area lies in the western countryside of Taiz, adjacent to the western coast.

The situation remains critical as humanitarian organizations strive to address the urgent needs of those affected by the conflict.
