In response to the destructive low-pressure system currently battering the provinces of Al Hudaydah and Hajjah, the Yemeni government has reached out to its regional and international partners, including states, financial institutions, and humanitarian organizations, urging them to bolster efforts to mitigate the extensive damage inflicted. The severe weather event has unleashed heavy rainfall, leading to floods and landslides that have severely damaged infrastructure and both public and private properties.
The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation highlighted the significant damage to displacement camps and mud-brick homes, a consequence of the torrential rains that now threaten lives and property. In a statement, the Ministry emphasized the critical situation arising from the low-pressure system, underscoring the urgent and comprehensive intervention required to address the repercussions, alleviate the suffering of affected citizens, and provide necessary alternatives in the hardest-hit areas. Immediate measures to manage floodwaters are also crucial.
The Ministry has called on all partners for a swift response and immediate support in various forms to aid those affected, rehabilitate infrastructure, and prevent further loss of life and property. It assured full readiness to offer all possible facilitations to ensure that aid reaches those in need in the disaster-stricken areas, through an operations room established for this purpose.
The appeal for assistance comes at a critical time as the government seeks to navigate the challenges posed by the severe weather conditions, aiming to safeguard its citizens and restore normalcy in the impacted regions. The international community’s response to this call for support will be pivotal in the recovery and rebuilding efforts in Al Hudaydah and Hajjah provinces.
