On Saturday, four siblings sustained serious injuries due to an explosion from a landmine planted by Houthi militia in the Al-Durayhimi district, located in southern Al-Hudaydah Governorate. This tragic incident highlights the significant dangers civilians face in conflict-affected areas of Yemen.
Local sources reported that the explosion occurred in the village of Al-Makimaniya, within the Al-Manafirah isolation, while the children were playing near their home. The victims, all children of citizen Omar Yahya, include Ammar Omar Yahya, Yahya Omar Yahya, Jumaa Omar Yahya, and Hanadi Omar Yahya. The eldest sibling is only twelve years old.
According to the Al-Hudaydah Media Office, initial medical reports indicate that the injuries primarily affected the limbs and various parts of the bodies. Consequently, the children required urgent admission to operating rooms for precise surgeries to save their lives. The families of these children are experiencing immense anxiety regarding their health conditions.
Al-Hudaydah Governorate ranks among the most contaminated areas in Yemen, plagued by landmines and explosive devices planted by Houthi militia in residential neighborhoods and along roads. These landmines pose a constant threat to civilian lives, particularly for children, who often fall victim to these horrific acts. The situation necessitates immediate action to address this humanitarian crisis.
This incident underscores the urgent need to protect civilians in Yemen, especially children, from the dangers posed by landmines. The international community must take serious steps to support demining efforts and work towards achieving lasting peace in the country. The ongoing conflict not only jeopardizes stability but also endangers the lives of innocent individuals.
