Yemen and the UN Discuss Humanitarian, Relief, and Development Issues in Aden

In a significant meeting held in Aden, Yemen’s temporary capital, Dr. Shaia Al-Zindani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs, engaged in comprehensive discussions with Julian Harney, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Yemen. The focus of their conversation revolved around the pressing humanitarian, relief, and developmental challenges facing the country.

Strengthening Cooperation

Accompanied by Marcus Werney, the Director of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), both parties explored avenues for enhanced collaboration and coordination between the Yemeni government and the United Nations. A key topic on their agenda was the mobilization of resources to address the devastating effects of floods that have swept through several provinces. Moreover, they delved into various humanitarian, relief, and developmental sectors, among other related areas, aiming to alleviate the suffering of citizens across all provinces.

Commitment to Humanitarian Protection and Development

Foreign Minister Al-Zindani emphasized the importance of safeguarding humanitarian workers, underscoring the government’s commitment to bolstering cooperation and coordination with the United Nations and its agencies. This collaboration aims to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid and the implementation of developmental programs in Yemen’s most needy regions.

UN Acknowledges Coordination Efforts

On his part, the UN Resident Coordinator lauded the coordination efforts with the Yemeni government, highlighting their role in mitigating human suffering and enhancing the prospects for sustainable developmental solutions that benefit citizens throughout Yemen’s provinces.

This meeting underscores a pivotal step towards addressing Yemen’s humanitarian and developmental challenges through international cooperation and coordination, aiming for a brighter future for all Yemeni citizens.
