Ending the Israeli Occupation: A Path to Peace and Stability
The Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League and Head of the Palestine and Arab Occupied Territories Sector, Ambassador Faed Mustafa, emphasized that achieving security, peace, and stability in the region hinges on ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian and Arab lands. He underlined the necessity of empowering the Palestinian people to establish their independent state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy.
Meeting with the Belgian Delegation
Ambassador Mustafa made these remarks during a meeting at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo with a Belgian delegation led by Belgium’s Special Envoy to the Middle East. The discussions focused on the latest developments surrounding the Palestinian issue and related regional dynamics. Notably, the meeting underscored the dire humanitarian conditions faced by the Palestinian people, highlighting the critical need to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to bolster their resilience.
International Support for Palestinian Rights
During the meeting, Ambassador Mustafa praised the international community’s ongoing support for Palestinian rights. He stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to halt Israeli violations and called for strengthening the political path toward a peaceful resolution. Ambassador Mustafa emphasized the necessity for collective action to achieve comprehensive peace in the region.
In related news, the Media Observatory of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation reported 22 martyrs and 85 injuries from April 28 to May 4, 2026. Among the deceased, 14 were in Gaza, alongside 340 incursions in the West Bank and the arrest of 172 Palestinians. The observatory documented a staggering 73,771 martyrs since October 7, 2023, and over 183,000 injuries, including eight violations of Al-Aqsa Mosque within a single week.
Furthermore, the observatory recorded 112 attacks by settlers and 13 settlement activities in the West Bank. These ongoing Israeli assaults continue to adversely affect the daily lives of Palestinians, with reports indicating the killing of a child, injuries to eight others, the closure of a school in Rantis, and the storming of Khadouri University – Al-Aroub branch.
