Egypt Reaffirms Support for Yemen's Unity and Territorial Integrity

Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, has reiterated Egypt’s commitment to the unity of the Republic of Yemen and the integrity of its territories. He highlighted the significance of Yemen’s security and stability for Egypt’s national security and the broader Red Sea region.

Support for a Comprehensive Political Solution

During a meeting on Monday with Hans Grundberg, the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen, Minister Abdel-Aty expressed Egypt’s backing for all efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis. He stressed that such a solution must meet the aspirations of the Yemeni people and alleviate their humanitarian suffering. This approach aligns with established frameworks, including the Gulf Initiative, the National Dialogue Conference, the outcomes of the Riyadh consultations, and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216.

Ensuring Safe Navigation in the Red Sea

The Egyptian Foreign Minister emphasized the critical need to ensure safe navigation in the Red Sea, noting its direct connection to Egypt’s national security. He pointed out that tensions in the region have led to a decline in revenues from the Suez Canal, underscoring the necessity for the international community to play an active role in mitigating the humanitarian crisis affecting the Yemeni population. He called for increased support to fund United Nations relief programs in Yemen.

Humanitarian Assistance and Support for Yemeni Citizens

Minister Abdel-Aty also addressed Egypt’s ongoing support for the Yemeni people and their constitutional legitimacy. He highlighted Egypt’s provision of medical and food assistance, along with hosting over one million Yemeni citizens on its territory. Egypt has committed to offering all necessary living services and facilities to its Yemeni brothers and sisters.

In conclusion, Egypt remains steadfast in its support for Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity, recognizing the importance of regional stability and humanitarian assistance in overcoming the ongoing crisis.
