On Thursday, customs officials at the Shahn port in Al-Mahra successfully intercepted a shipment containing 3,975 parts for AK-47 rifles. The authorities discovered these components concealed within a commercial cargo destined for Yemen.
Thabit Awad, the Director General of Shahn Customs, confirmed the successful operation during a statement to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba). He highlighted the collaborative efforts between customs staff and security forces in thwarting the smuggling attempt. Awad emphasized that the authorities acted in accordance with customs laws and national legislation aimed at combating smuggling.
This recent seizure marks another achievement in a series of successful operations by Shahn Customs. The agency has intensified its efforts against the trafficking of prohibited items, which have included the interception of drone components and weapon parts.
Awad reiterated the commitment of state leaders, the government, and the Ministry of Finance to prioritize the training and development of customs personnel. This focus includes equipping staff at various entry points with the latest technologies. Such initiatives enhance the effectiveness of anti-smuggling operations and contribute to the agency’s ongoing successes.
