Mareb Governor Discusses Humanitarian Efforts

Today, Sultan Al-Arada, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Mareb, met with a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The delegation was led by Christine Shibula, head of the ICRC mission in Yemen. The meeting focused on the current humanitarian situation and ways to enhance cooperation in implementing humanitarian programs and projects.

Humanitarian Challenges in Mareb

During the meeting, which also included Amira Kadiar, head of the ICRC office in Aden, Al-Arada highlighted the pressing humanitarian conditions in Mareb. He noted the ongoing influx of displaced individuals from various provinces, which poses significant challenges to essential services and infrastructure.

Strengthening Collaboration

The discussion also covered existing cooperation between local authorities and the ICRC. Both parties explored mechanisms to enhance humanitarian interventions in priority sectors. Al-Arada praised the ICRC’s humanitarian role in Yemen, acknowledging its efforts in executing projects and supporting the humanitarian file concerning prisoners and detainees. He emphasized the ICRC’s continuous efforts to facilitate prisoner exchanges, which help reunite families and alleviate the suffering of thousands across different provinces.

Commitment to Humanitarian Initiatives

Al-Arada reaffirmed the importance of continuing these humanitarian efforts and enhancing coordination to ensure the success of initiatives aimed at releasing prisoners and detainees based on the principle of “all for all,” in accordance with international humanitarian law.

ICRC’s Ongoing Commitment

In response, Shibula expressed the ICRC’s commitment to continuing humanitarian work. She emphasized the need to strengthen partnerships and coordination with relevant entities to effectively address humanitarian needs and alleviate the suffering of citizens.

This meeting underscores the ongoing collaboration between local authorities and international organizations to address the pressing humanitarian challenges in Yemen.
