Council member Sultan al-Aradah discusses Yemen’s situation with the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires.

Meeting Between Yemeni Leadership and U.S. Charge d’Affaires

Today, Major General Sultan al-Arada, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with Jonathan Pecha, the U.S. Charge d’Affaires in Yemen. The two discussed the latest developments in Yemen’s political, economic, and humanitarian situations.

Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

During the meeting, al-Arada emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation between Yemen and the United States. They explored ways to address humanitarian and economic challenges while discussing the government’s efforts to stabilize the economy and improve public services.

The Path to Peace

Al-Arada asserted that achieving peace in Yemen requires genuine solutions and fundamental reforms. He called for adherence to agreed-upon political frameworks at local, regional, and international levels. This commitment is essential to end the crisis and address its political, economic, social, and humanitarian repercussions. He stressed the need for a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace that fulfills the aspirations of the Yemeni people to end the coup and restore state institutions.

International Response to Houthi Actions

The Major General urged the international community to adopt a clear, firm, and unified stance against the Houthi militia, which is backed by the Iranian regime. He highlighted the militia’s disregard for regional and international initiatives, along with its ongoing violations and hostile actions that threaten peace efforts. These actions undermine international initiatives and prolong the conflict, exacerbating the suffering of the Yemeni people.

Economic Crisis and Its Challenges

Al-Arada addressed the severe economic crisis, which poses significant challenges to the Presidential Leadership Council and the government’s stability efforts. He noted that the decline in state revenues, due to Houthi attacks on oil ports and facilities, has increased financial burdens and worsened the economic situation. The negative impacts have affected various sectors across the country.

Call for International Support

In light of these challenges, al-Arada called on friends in the United States and all regional and international partners to support the government’s efforts. He urged them to enhance the capabilities of financial and service institutions, enabling them to provide essential services to citizens and improve their humanitarian and living conditions. This support is crucial to mitigate the crisis caused by the Houthi militia.

Acknowledgment of U.S. Support

Al-Arada praised the United States for its support of the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government in various fields, particularly in political and humanitarian areas. He stressed the importance of continuing this support, especially during this critical phase that requires unified international efforts to assist the Yemeni people and alleviate their suffering.

U.S. Commitment to Yemen

In response, Jonathan Pecha reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting the Presidential Leadership Council. He expressed the U.S. dedication to restoring security and stability in Yemen, noting a global consensus on the need to end humanitarian suffering and build a secure and stable future for the country.

This meeting underscores the ongoing collaboration between Yemen and the United States, aiming to navigate the complex challenges facing the nation and its people.
