Developments in Yemen Discussed by Leadership and UK Ambassador

Meeting Overview

Today, Major General Sultan al-Arada, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with Abda Sharif, the British Ambassador to Yemen. They discussed the current situation in Yemen, focusing on national developments and bilateral relations.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

During the meeting, al-Arada and Sharif explored the cooperative ties between Yemen and the United Kingdom. They emphasized the importance of collaboration across various sectors to serve mutual interests. This partnership aims to enhance stability and support Yemen’s ongoing recovery efforts.

Saudi Arabia’s Role in Stabilization Efforts

The discussion also highlighted Saudi Arabia’s efforts to ease tensions and maintain security and stability in Yemen. Al-Arada praised Saudi initiatives aimed at preventing escalation, particularly in eastern provinces. He stressed that ensuring stability in liberated areas remains a top national priority during this critical period.

Economic Support from Saudi Arabia

Al-Arada pointed out the significance of Saudi Arabia’s political and economic support for Yemen. Recently, Saudi Arabia provided approximately $600 million in developmental aid, including $90 million allocated for state employee salaries in both civilian and military sectors. This assistance plays a crucial role in alleviating economic pressures and enhancing the government’s ability to meet its obligations to citizens.

Call for International Support

The member of the Presidential Leadership Council urged the international community to support the Council and the Yemeni government. He called for backing efforts to de-escalate tensions and maintain a political path that protects state institutions and promotes security and stability. Al-Arada also acknowledged the UK’s supportive stance on various fronts.

UK’s Commitment to Yemen

In response, Ambassador Sharif reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to supporting the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government. She expressed the UK’s dedication to Yemen’s unity, security, and stability. Additionally, she commended regional and international efforts aimed at reducing tensions and addressing the humanitarian crisis.

This meeting underscores the ongoing collaboration between Yemen and international partners, emphasizing the need for continued support to navigate the complex challenges facing the nation.
