King Salman Humanitarian Aid Center Dismantles Over 7,000 Explosive Devices in Yemen

On Wednesday, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center’s “Masam” project successfully destroyed 7,175 landmines and unexploded ordnance in the Wadi Dufas area of Zinjibar, Abyan Governorate. These explosives were planted by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia.

Details of the Destruction Operation

According to the media office of the “Masam” project, the destroyed materials included 17 anti-personnel mines, 6 anti-tank mines, 333 assorted shells, 255 fuses and detonators, 31 hand grenades, and 6,521 rounds of ammunition. The operation also involved the destruction of 12 rockets. The project teams collected a significant amount of war remnants from the governorates of Aden, Lahij, and Abyan.

Commitment to Safety and Standards

Mundhir Ahmed, the leader of the Special Tasks Team, stated that the operation took place in a secure area, far from populated regions and agricultural lands. He emphasized that the team adhered to international standards for destruction operations, despite facing various field challenges.

Ongoing Efforts to Protect Civilians

Ahmed added that the Special Tasks Teams work year-round due to the critical nature of their mission to protect innocent lives. He reaffirmed the team’s commitment to continue their efforts until all Yemeni territories are cleared of the threat posed by landmines.

This operation falls under the ongoing efforts to clear Yemeni lands of landmines, improvised explosive devices, and unexploded ordnance that endanger civilian lives, all planted by the Houthi militia.
