Dr. Abdullah Al-Eleimi Arrives in Baku for COP29 Climate Summit

Dr. Abdullah Al-Eleimi, a member of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, arrived today in Baku, Azerbaijan. He leads Yemen’s delegation at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). This international event plays a crucial role in addressing global climate challenges.

Warm Welcome at the Airport

Upon his arrival at Baku International Airport, Dr. Al-Eleimi received a warm welcome from Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Firdovsi Geybov, along with several other officials. This reception highlights the importance of international cooperation in tackling climate issues.

Key Discussions on Climate Change

The COP29 summit will feature extensive discussions on reducing global warming and its devastating impacts. Delegates from various countries will address financial commitments to assist impoverished nations facing increased heatwaves, storms, and floods due to climate change. Yemen’s participation underscores its commitment to engaging with global environmental issues and responding to the severe threats climate change poses to its ecological, health, and economic sectors.

Yemen’s Climate Challenges

Yemen currently faces severe climate changes that threaten its rich biodiversity. These environmental shifts necessitate urgent action and enhanced collaboration with international partners to mitigate these challenges. The country recognizes the pressing need for strategies to combat the adverse effects of climate change.

Meetings and Side Events

During his time at the summit, Dr. Al-Eleimi plans to meet with various leaders and officials to discuss bilateral relations, regional developments, and shared concerns. He will also participate in several side events, including a roundtable on energy transition and a high-level session on climate financing. These discussions will focus on Yemen’s potential to harness clean energy sources and the international support needed to achieve national goals in combating climate change.

Accompanying Delegation

Dr. Al-Eleimi is accompanied by Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, and Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, Salem Al-Saqtri. Also joining them is Ambassador Ahmed Al-Sharabi, head of the Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Together, they represent Yemen’s commitment to addressing climate change on a global stage.

The participation of Yemen in COP29 reflects its dedication to international environmental efforts and the urgent need to confront the realities of climate change.
