Council member Al-Zubaidi urges the international community to empower the Presidential Leadership Council to end Houthi chaos.

International Community Urged to Support Yemeni Leadership in Ending Houthi Chaos

New York – Saba News Agency

In a recent address to the United Nations Security Council, Major General Aidarus al-Zubaidi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, called for a collective international effort to empower the Yemeni leadership in its struggle against the chaos and disorder instigated by the Houthi movement. He emphasized the urgent need to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and address the worsening economic conditions faced by the Yemeni people. Al-Zubaidi stated that these measures could pave the way for a comprehensive political process led by Yemenis, with regional and international support to ensure a sustainable political solution.

Addressing Global and Regional Security Threats

During the high-level open discussion titled “Harnessing Leadership for Peace: United in Upholding the UN Charter for a Secure Future,” al-Zubaidi highlighted the significant threat posed by the Houthis to global, regional, and Yemeni security. He insisted on the necessity of sending a clear message that the violence and tyranny perpetrated by the Houthis cannot continue without consequences.

Al-Zubaidi reiterated the need for a collaborative effort to enable the Presidential Leadership Council to restore order and stability in Yemen. He urged all parties to work together to alleviate the humanitarian suffering and address the dire economic situation afflicting the Yemeni population.

A Decade of Conflict and Humanitarian Suffering

Reflecting on the decade-long conflict in Yemen, al-Zubaidi pointed out the devastating toll it has taken, with hundreds of thousands of innocent lives lost and millions teetering on the brink of famine due to Houthi terrorism. He noted that women and children are at the forefront of this suffering, and humanitarian workers, including those from the United Nations, have faced abduction and enforced disappearances. He blamed the international community’s lack of political will for the persistence of terrorism and conflict.

The Impact of Houthi Attacks on Maritime Security

Al-Zubaidi also addressed the repercussions of Houthi attacks on maritime security and international trade in the Red Sea. He attributed these incidents to the failure to resolve the conflict and the lack of serious action against such practices. He stressed that the current situation in Yemen is no longer acceptable and that the interests of the Yemeni people align with ending the conflict and finding a lasting solution, which is also a shared interest with regional allies and the international community.

Call for Effective Leadership and Inclusive Peace Efforts

Securing peace in Yemen, according to al-Zubaidi, requires effective and participatory leadership at international, regional, and local levels. He expressed confidence in the possibility of collective action from the UN Security Council to achieve a just future for the Yemeni people.

He referenced the UN Secretary-General’s address at the Future Summit, emphasizing the need for sustainable solutions to global conflicts—a vision that deserves universal support. Al-Zubaidi reiterated the necessity for a new, comprehensive approach to end the conflict in Yemen and restore the peace that the Yemeni people deserve.

Prioritizing Key Issues for Lasting Peace

Al-Zubaidi pointed out that for too long, critical issues and stakeholders have been marginalized in shaping Yemen’s future. He highlighted the importance of addressing the Southern issue, which was outlined in a special negotiation framework during the Gulf Cooperation Council consultations in Riyadh in 2022. He also stressed the need to amplify the voices of youth, women, and minorities, asserting that sustainable peace can only be achieved through an inclusive political process that encompasses these vital issues and stakeholders.
