Meeting Between Yemeni Leadership and U.S. Diplomat Highlights Urgent Issues

Today, Major General Aidarus Qassem al-Zubaidi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, held a virtual meeting with Jonathan Pecha, the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Yemen. This meeting aimed to address pressing local developments amid ongoing regional changes.

Discussion on Local Developments and Peace Efforts

The meeting included key figures such as Mohammed al-Ghaithi, the head of the Consultative and Reconciliation Authority supporting the Presidential Leadership Council, and Dr. Nasser al-Khubji, a council member. They discussed the current situation in Yemen, focusing on how regional dynamics affect peace efforts and the potential for achieving lasting stability.

Humanitarian and Economic Challenges

The conversation also highlighted the severe humanitarian and economic crises facing Yemen, particularly in the temporary capital, Aden, and other liberated provinces. The participants emphasized the urgent need for government and Presidential Leadership Council support in implementing immediate economic reforms. They identified critical issues such as the electricity crisis, currency devaluation, and salary disruptions. The meeting underscored the necessity for international assistance to help the Yemeni government resume oil exports, which would enable the provision of essential services to citizens.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed on the importance of ongoing consultation and coordination. They emphasized strengthening communication channels between the Presidential Leadership Council, the Yemeni government, the U.S. administration, and the international community. This collaboration aims to propel peace and development efforts forward, ultimately fulfilling the aspirations of the Yemeni people for a secure and stable future.
