Council member Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami discusses political and humanitarian updates with the U.S. ambassador.

Political Developments in Yemen Discussed by Presidential Council Member and U.S. Ambassador

Today, Abdulrahman al-Mahrami, a member of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, met with Stephen Fagin, the U.S. Ambassador to Yemen. They discussed the latest political developments in Yemen, particularly the designation of the Houthi militia as a foreign terrorist organization.

U.S. Designation of Houthis as Terrorists

Al-Mahrami praised former President Donald Trump’s decision to classify the Houthis as a terrorist organization. He emphasized that this designation aims to curb the militia’s violations against maritime security and civilians, which have exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in Yemen. Al-Mahrami noted that this decision reflects a genuine understanding of the threat posed by this extremist group, which receives support from Iran.

Humanitarian and Economic Crisis

During their meeting, both officials addressed the worsening humanitarian situation amid Yemen’s escalating economic and service crises. Al-Mahrami stressed the urgent need for comprehensive reforms within the government and state institutions. He highlighted the importance of activating revenue-generating institutions, enhancing regulatory bodies, and achieving economic stability.

Call for Regional and International Support

Al-Mahrami also called for increased regional and international support to assist the Presidential Leadership Council and the government. He urged efforts to improve the deteriorating economic situation and restore normalcy in the liberated provinces.

This meeting underscores the ongoing challenges Yemen faces and the collaborative efforts needed to address both political and humanitarian issues effectively.
