Cabinet reviews issues on citizens’ services, economy, and living conditions amid recent developments.

Yemen's Cabinet Addresses Key National Issues and Approves Strategic Decisions

In a significant meeting held in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, the Cabinet delved into a comprehensive review of various issues affecting the citizens’ service, economic, and living conditions. The session, conducted on Wednesday, also covered the latest developments in the political, military, and security landscape, alongside agenda-listed topics, leading to the adoption of necessary resolutions.

Economic and Environmental Initiatives

The Cabinet ratified the outcomes of the ministerial committee, led by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, aimed at addressing the economic, financial, and monetary challenges. The results and recommendations have been forwarded to the relevant authorities for further action.

In a move towards environmental conservation, the Cabinet approved the establishment and management of the Khawr Ambikha wetland in the Mukalla district of Hadramout province as a natural reserve. The Ministers of Legal Affairs and Water and Environment have been tasked with completing the necessary legal procedures for Prime Minister’s final approval. This decision underscores Yemen’s commitment to biodiversity protection, sustainable natural resource management, and endangered species conservation. Khawr Ambikha, rich in flora and fauna, presents a significant opportunity for eco-tourism and educational initiatives, serving as a living museum of wetland ecosystems.

Government Performance and Transparency

Prime Minister bin Mubarak highlighted observations regarding the performance of certain ministries and governmental bodies in addressing current and exceptional challenges. He emphasized the progress in implementing financial and administrative reforms, strategic government plans, and priorities. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of restoring confidence in state institutions, enhancing transparency, accountability, and combating corruption as a national and ethical responsibility.

Support from International Partners and Disaster Response

Dr. bin Mubarak expressed confidence in the support from Yemen’s international partners, including key allies in the Saudi-led coalition, for the government’s plans and reforms. This support directly impacts citizens’ lives and basic service and goods needs.

The Cabinet also addressed the recent gas station explosion in Mansoura district, underscoring the urgent need for strict measures based on the investigation findings to prevent similar incidents and ensure citizen safety in Aden and liberated provinces.

Political and Security Updates

The meeting touched on the political situation and peace efforts, criticizing the Houthi militia’s continued obstruction of peace initiatives led by Saudi Arabia and the international community. The Cabinet commended the high readiness of the armed forces and security agencies to deter any escalation by the Houthi militia.

Climate Change and International Solidarity

The Cabinet reviewed government actions in coordination with local authorities to provide relief to victims of severe rains and floods, emphasizing the need for continued efforts to address climate change impacts. It called on the United Nations and the international community to recognize the plight of citizens in Houthi-controlled areas, where humanitarian aid is obstructed.

The Cabinet praised the immediate relief response from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, and others, urging international organizations to increase support for rescue operations and aid to affected families.

Environmental Risks and Sustainable Development Goals

Warnings were issued about the potential environmental disaster posed by the Houthi militia’s attacks on the Greek oil tanker “Sunion,” carrying one million barrels of crude oil. The Cabinet discussed the catastrophic implications of any oil spill in the Red Sea and surrounding areas on Yemen’s economy and environment.

Furthermore, the Cabinet examined Yemen’s first national report on the Sustainable Development Goals, presented at the high-level political forum in New York. The government is directed to translate the report’s findings into an actionable plan, with the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation tasked with mobilizing funding for priority programs and interventions.

Solidarity with Egypt

Yemen’s Cabinet reaffirmed its solidarity with Egypt against provocative statements by the Israeli Prime Minister, stressing the importance of Egypt’s mediation efforts for a lasting ceasefire and reiterating Yemen’s support for the Palestinian cause.

In conclusion, the Cabinet’s meeting underscored Yemen’s commitment to addressing immediate challenges, enhancing state governance, and fostering international partnerships for the nation’s sustainable development and peace.
