Blosky introduces a feature that prevents your posts from appearing in the Discover feed.

Bluesky Introduces New Feature to Control Post Visibility

Bluesky has launched a new feature that enhances user control over the visibility of their posts. Users can now opt out of the algorithmic Discover feed, meaning their posts will not appear to individuals who do not follow them. This update aims to address concerns about unintended exposure, allowing users to share content more selectively.

Addressing User Concerns

The new feature specifically targets users worried about their posts reaching a wide audience, including millions of strangers who may lack context. Bluesky acknowledges that not everyone desires broad visibility and that many users prefer to share content only with those they know.

However, opting out of the Discover feed does not make an account completely private. Anyone can still visit the account and view posts, but the algorithm will no longer promote them. This option serves as a step towards privacy, especially since Bluesky currently does not support fully private accounts.

Limitations of the New Feature

Bluesky clarified that this setting does not prevent others from taking screenshots or sharing posts. Additionally, other applications built on the AT Proto protocol may choose to respect or ignore this setting.

How to Activate Post Hiding from Discover

Users can activate this feature by following these steps:

  1. Navigate to Privacy and Security Settings in the app.
  2. Enable the option: Ask apps to hide my posts from algorithmic recommendations.

It may take up to an hour for this setting to take full effect.

Additional New Features

In addition to this visibility control, Bluesky has announced support for uploading videos of up to 10 minutes. The platform also introduced new customization options for content feeds, part of a series of updates designed to give users greater control over their experience.
