Arab League Holds Extraordinary Session to Address Ethiopian Attacks on Sudan

Extraordinary Session of the Arab League Council Commences

Today, the extraordinary session of the Arab League Council commenced at the level of permanent representatives. Chaired by Bahrain’s Ambassador to the League, Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal, the meeting also welcomed Assistant Secretary-General Ambassador Hossam Zaki. This session aims to address the escalating situation in Sudan following recent attacks on its territory.

Meeting Initiated at Sudan’s Request with Broad Support

The session was convened at the request of the Republic of Sudan and received unanimous backing from all member states. The primary focus of the agenda is the assaults Sudan has faced from drones launched from Ethiopian territory. This alarming development has raised significant concerns among Arab nations, prompting member states to gather and discuss strategies to effectively counter these attacks.

Solidarity with Sudan and Rejection of Sovereignty Violations

During the meeting, representatives explored various avenues to enhance Arab solidarity with Sudan in light of the threats to its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Participants underscored the necessity of a unified Arab stance regarding these serious developments. They called for respect for the principles of good neighborliness and urged for de-escalation of military tensions in the region.

The session is expected to produce an Arab resolution affirming full support for Sudan and its territorial unity, alongside a rejection of any actions that jeopardize its security and stability. Additionally, the decisions are likely to include a strong call for adherence to the principles of good neighborliness among Arab nations. This gathering reflects a robust Arab consensus to stand with Sudan during this critical period, especially given the escalating tensions along its eastern borders.
