Controversy Erupts Over Non-Educator Appointed to School Management in Ibb
Local sources in Ibb Governorate reported on Monday that the educational administration affiliated with the Houthi militia in the Al-Sabra district has appointed a non-educator to manage a school. The individual, Fakhreddin Al-Audi, will oversee the “Amr ibn Al-As” school, recently renamed “Al-Samad School,” located in the Beit Al-Audi area of the Beit Al-Shaibi isolation.
Administrative Chaos in Education Sector
Sources indicate that Al-Audi currently manages “Khalid ibn Al-Walid” school, a position he inherited following his father’s death. This appointment reflects a troubling trend of administrative chaos and educational disorder in areas controlled by the militia.
Teachers and Parents Demand Change
The teaching staff and the parents’ council at Al-Samad School have expressed strong opposition to this appointment. They are calling for the appointment of Salah Hamoud Saleh Al-Riyashi, who holds a Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Planning. Al-Riyashi has been effectively managing the school since the passing of the previous director, Ali Abdu Saeed Khazijah, and is recognized for his high competence.
Familial Control in Education
Last month, an official document revealed that a young man had been appointed as a school director in a rural town in Ibb, following his father’s death. This incident highlights the ongoing familial and authoritarian control over the education sector by influential leaders within the Houthi militia.
Urgent Call for Action
These practices underscore the precarious state of education in Houthi-controlled areas. Stakeholders must take decisive action to protect the educational process from politicization and unprofessional appointments.
