Ministerial Meeting Highlights Cooperation

Algeria’s Minister of Mines and Mining Industries, Mourad Hanifi, recently met with Han Wenchiu, Deputy Executive Director of the Central Committee for Financial and Economic Affairs in China. This meeting occurred during Han’s official visit to Algeria. Both parties agreed to enhance the Algerian-Chinese partnership in the mining sector, focusing on several key areas.

Enhancing Collaboration in Geology and Investment

During their discussions, both sides expressed a shared commitment to elevate the strategic partnership between Algeria and China in mining. They emphasized the importance of encouraging Chinese companies to engage in mining and industrial projects that add significant value within Algeria.

New National Mining Policy

Minister Hanifi outlined the major directions of Algeria’s new national mining policy. This policy aims to transform the mining sector into a driver for manufacturing and a supporter of economic diversification. Additionally, it seeks to strengthen the country’s economic sovereignty, as reported by Al-Shorouk newspaper.

Developing Training Programs and Technical Cooperation

The two parties also discussed enhancing collaboration between the Chinese Geological Service and Algeria’s Geological Service Agency. They addressed the need for specialized training programs for young Algerian engineers, in partnership with Chinese companies operating in the sector. This collaboration represents a crucial step toward building local capacity in mining.

China’s Commitment to Development Partnership

Han Wenchiu reiterated China’s readiness for a partnership based on mutual development. He confirmed China’s commitment to encouraging Chinese economic operators to invest in high-value mining and industrial projects in Algeria.
