Aden meeting discusses coordination between the Reconciliation Authority and the Ministry of Defense.

Strengthening National Reconciliation and Coordination in Yemen

In a significant development at the temporary capital, Aden, a key meeting took place at the headquarters of the Consultation and Reconciliation Authority. The meeting saw the participation of the Authority’s Vice Presidents, Sakhr Al-Wajeeh and Jamila Raja, alongside the Minister of Defense, Major General Mohsen Al-Daeri.

Collaboration for National Interest

The gathering, which was also attended by Rasha Jarhum, the Chair of the Committee on Rights and Freedoms, and Abdul-Khaliq Bishr, a member and rapporteur of the committee, focused on the Authority’s efforts in the past period and outlined future steps. The discussions also covered the mechanisms of coordination with the Ministry of Defense to advance issues related to the Authority’s work. Participants appreciated the Defense Minister’s cooperation and his commitment to national interests.

Enhancing Rights and Freedoms

Rasha Jarhum reviewed the committee’s tasks, especially those supporting state institutions including the military and security forces, to bolster coordination in the field of rights and freedoms. This initiative underscores the importance of strengthening the fabric of national security and human rights.

Unified Efforts for Prisoners and Detainees

The committee member and rapporteur spoke about the critical issue of prisoners and detainees, highlighting the need for a national joint mechanism to unify efforts among all political and civil forces. The goal is to secure the release of all prisoners and detainees, demonstrating a collective commitment to human rights and reconciliation.

Defense Ministry’s Commitment to International Law

Minister of Defense, Major General Mohsen Al-Daeri, pointed out that the ministry’s operations adhere to international humanitarian law and cooperation with international human rights frameworks, including the United Nations Security Council’s sanctions committee. He also drew attention to the challenges faced in combating arms smuggling to the Houthi militias, emphasizing the need for international collaboration to address these issues.

Acknowledging the Authority’s Role

Major General Al-Daeri commended the Consultation and Reconciliation Authority’s efforts during this critical phase and acknowledged its vital role in fostering consensus among political forces. He expressed his full readiness to cooperate and coordinate with the Authority, highlighting a unified approach to national reconciliation and stability.

This meeting marks a pivotal moment in Yemen’s journey toward reconciliation and underscores the collective efforts of its leaders to address pressing national issues through dialogue and coordination. The emphasis on rights, freedoms, and the rule of law points towards a hopeful path for the country’s future.
