In a significant move to bolster public health, the National Center for Health Education and Population Media, under the Ministry of Public Health and Population, in collaboration with UNICEF, organized a pivotal training workshop today in Aden, the temporary capital. The workshop focused on enhancing healthcare workers’ knowledge on maternal and child health and the critical role of vaccinations.
The workshop aimed to equip 40 participants from the governorates of Aden, Abyan, and Lahj with essential information and knowledge. The curriculum covered various critical areas, including raising awareness among healthcare workers about maternal and child health issues, immunization, nutrition, and guidelines for life-saving messages and immunization schedules. Additionally, the workshop addressed the challenge of combating rumors and the principles of community behavior change. Information on preventing cholera was also provided, underscoring the comprehensive nature of the training.
Dr. Ishraq Al-Sabai, the Assistant Agent of the Ministry of Health and the General Supervisor of the National Center for Health Education and Population Media, highlighted the importance of behavior change, awareness-raising, and enhancing services related to maternal and child health. She emphasized the ultimate goal of reducing maternal and newborn deaths. Dr. Al-Sabai encouraged participants to apply the knowledge acquired during the workshop broadly within their health facilities, aiming for a wide-reaching impact.
The workshop in Aden marks a critical step towards improving public health outcomes in the region. By focusing on the health of mothers and children and the importance of vaccinations, the initiative seeks to empower healthcare workers with the knowledge and tools necessary to make a significant difference in their communities. This collaborative effort between the Ministry of Public Health and Population and UNICEF underscores the ongoing commitment to enhancing healthcare services and awareness in Yemen.
