Specialized Training Programs Conclude in Aden

In the temporary capital of Aden, two specialized training courses aimed at enhancing the capabilities of personnel from the Coast Guard, the General Authority for Maritime Affairs, and the Customs Authority have successfully concluded. These courses focused on Maritime Communications for Operators and Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA). The training received oversight from the General Administration for Training and Qualification within the Coast Guard, with support from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

Training Participants

A total of 21 trainees participated in the program, divided into two distinct courses:

  • Course One: Maritime Communications for Operators, which included 10 trainees from the Coast Guard and Maritime Affairs.
  • Course Two: Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA), featuring 11 trainees from the three involved agencies.

Enhancing Operational Readiness

This training initiative forms part of the Yemeni Coast Guard’s ongoing efforts to boost operational readiness and improve the skills of its workforce. These efforts are crucial in addressing the increasing challenges associated with maritime crime and smuggling.

Importance of the Training

Brigadier General Hussein Ammer, Director General of Training and Qualification in the Coast Guard, emphasized the significance of these courses in enhancing professional competence. He noted that such training fosters a spirit of positive competition among national maritime institutions. He also expressed gratitude to the trainers and UNODC for their role in the program’s success.

Collaboration Among Agencies

Engineer Abdulghani Al-Qadi, Director of Training at the General Authority for Maritime Affairs, along with consultant Engineer Faisal Mohammed, praised the level of coordination and integration among the maritime agencies. They highlighted the importance of continuing such initiatives to build qualified national capacities in the maritime sector.

The successful completion of these training courses marks a significant step forward for Yemen’s maritime authorities, reinforcing their commitment to improving safety and security in the region’s waters.
