A workshop to combat corruption launched in Aden, attended by the Prime Minister.

National Workshop on Anti-Corruption Kicks Off in Aden

On Sunday, a national workshop titled “Towards a Strategic Framework for Combating Corruption to Support Recovery Efforts in Yemen” commenced in Aden, the temporary capital. The event, organized by the technical team of the Prime Minister in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), features participation from several ministers, judicial and regulatory representatives, security officials, and a group of international experts.

Objectives of the Workshop

This two-day workshop aims to develop a comprehensive national strategic framework that enhances anti-corruption efforts. The framework will closely align with priorities for economic recovery and institutional reform. Ultimately, it seeks to improve the efficiency of state institutions and bolster the trust of citizens and international partners.

Emphasizing a Coordinated Approach

In his opening speech, Dr. Sha’if Mohsen Al-Zandani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the importance of adopting an integrated institutional approach to combat corruption. He emphasized that this approach serves as a critical entry point for enhancing economic recovery and establishing stability. Dr. Al-Zandani urged the need for improved coordination among various stakeholders, integration of their roles, and activation of mechanisms to protect public funds. These steps are essential for achieving tangible and sustainable results.

Government Reforms and Transparency

Dr. Al-Zandani noted that these efforts align with the implementation of government reform programs and the promotion of transparency and accountability. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing regulatory and legislative frameworks that support integrity and combat corruption.

Institutional Efforts Against Corruption

The workshop also addressed existing institutional efforts, particularly the issuance of Prime Ministerial Decision No. 34 of 2025. This decision established a coordination and follow-up committee among judicial, regulatory, and security bodies to combat corruption. The committee holds regular meetings to monitor its tasks effectively.

Committee Responsibilities

The committee’s responsibilities include tracking corruption-related cases, providing recommendations to enhance institutional prevention, and coordinating efforts among judicial, regulatory, and security entities. These actions aim to ensure the integration and acceleration of procedures, facilitate information exchange, and develop secure, shared databases that enhance institutional effectiveness.

Expected Outcomes

Participants expect the workshop to yield practical recommendations that will contribute to the development of a national integrity system. These recommendations will support the reform process and reinforce principles of good governance, ultimately aiding the state in achieving recovery and stability in both the medium and long term.
