Houthi Militias Kidnap 33 Civilians Amid September 26 Revolution Celebrations

Human Rights Organization Reports Abductions

The Equality Organization for Rights and Freedoms announced today that Houthi militias, backed by the Iranian regime, have kidnapped 33 civilians in recent days. These abductions occurred in areas under Houthi control, primarily in response to calls for celebrations marking the 62nd anniversary of the September 26 Revolution.

Widespread Campaign of Abductions

In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the organization condemned the extensive kidnapping campaigns launched by the Houthis in the capital, Sana’a, as well as in the provinces of Dhamar, Ibb, and Amran. The targeted individuals include politicians, journalists, human rights activists, and anyone advocating for the celebration of the revolution’s anniversary.

Call for Immediate Release of Detainees

The Equality Organization demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all abducted individuals. The organization holds the Houthi militias fully responsible for their safety. They emphasized that these actions highlight the oppressive nature of the group, which seeks to suppress any expressions of celebration related to the revolution.

International Community Urged to Act

In its statement, the Equality Organization called on the United Nations Secretary-General, the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and all human rights organizations to exert real and effective pressure on the Houthi militias. The aim is to halt these blatant violations and ensure respect for human rights and freedom of expression in Yemen.
