A senior official from the Presidential Office has praised the ongoing efforts of Saudi Arabia to de-escalate tensions and restore normalcy in Eastern Yemen. This statement follows the arrival of a Saudi-Emirati military team in the temporary capital, Aden, on Friday.
The official emphasized that this visit aligns with the initiatives of both Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to bolster the unity of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government. Their aim is to return the Eastern provinces to their previous state of stability.
Saudi Arabia plays a crucial role in leading these de-escalation efforts. The kingdom remains committed to ensuring the security and stability of Yemen and its people while improving their living conditions. The ongoing initiatives focus on restoring normalcy in the Eastern provinces and adhering to the governing frameworks of the transitional phase, particularly the power transfer announcement and the Riyadh Agreement.
The joint military team in Aden will discuss ways to address recent unilateral actions, including the withdrawal of any forces brought in from outside the Eastern provinces. Their goal is to empower the government and local authorities to perform their duties according to the constitution and law, without infringing on their exclusive powers.
The state leadership warns that any additional escalation could undermine the gains achieved so far. It could also distract from the fight against Houthi militias, hinder economic reforms, and exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in the country.
The official reiterated the leadership’s commitment to prioritizing political solutions. They support the efforts of Saudi Arabia and the UAE while working closely with regional and international partners to maintain unity against the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist threat.
