A member of the Leadership Council, Al-Bahssani, meets with the EU mission head and ambassadors from France and the Netherlands.

Meeting Highlights Collaboration Between Yemen and European Union

Today, Major General Faraj Al-Bahsani, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with Gabriel Monuera Vinyals, the Head of the European Union Mission to Yemen, along with French Ambassador Catherine Colonna and Dutch Ambassador Janneke van der Veen. The meeting took place at the presidential palace in Mukalla, Hadramout.

Current National Situation and Economic Support

During the meeting, Al-Bahsani provided an overview of the current national situation in Yemen. He emphasized the urgent need for European intervention to support the economy and alleviate the worsening humanitarian crisis. This crisis has intensified due to Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities and maritime shipping vessels.

U.S. Designation of Houthi Militias

Al-Bahsani discussed the recent decision by the U.S. administration to reclassify Houthi militias as a foreign terrorist organization. He urged the European Union to adopt similar measures to exert pressure on these militias. Such actions would aim to cut off their funding and arms supply, thereby reducing their hostile activities that threaten regional and international security.

Efforts for Normalization and Reform

The discussion also covered the Presidential Leadership Council’s efforts to normalize conditions in liberated provinces. Al-Bahsani highlighted initiatives to improve economic and service sectors, implement substantial reforms across various fields, and enhance transparency and accountability while combating corruption.

Support for Local Authorities

Al-Bahsani reaffirmed the Council’s support for local authorities in liberated provinces. He praised initiatives aimed at improving services and bolstering security and stability in these areas.

Historical Context of Hadramout

Al-Bahsani reflected on the historical milestones in Hadramout, particularly the liberation of coastal cities from Al-Qaeda control in April 2016, with support from the Arab Coalition forces.

Commitment from the European Union

In response, the Head of the European Union Mission and the ambassadors of France and the Netherlands reiterated the EU’s commitment to supporting the efforts of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government. They confirmed the EU’s dedication to implementing projects across various sectors in liberated provinces, including Hadramout, to ease the living burdens on citizens.

This meeting underscores the ongoing collaboration between Yemen and European nations, focusing on stability, security, and humanitarian support in the region.
