Yemeni Minister Discusses Sustainable Development Solutions with UN Representatives

On October 20, 2023, Local Administration Minister Hussein Al-Aghbari convened in Aden, Yemen’s temporary capital, with representatives from various United Nations agencies. The meeting included officials from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). They discussed a joint project aimed at fostering sustainable development solutions across Yemen’s provinces and enhancing local governance capacity.

Goals and Priorities

Minister Al-Aghbari emphasized the need to intensify collaborative efforts between the Yemeni government and its UN partners. He highlighted the importance of developing comprehensive plans and programs to address both immediate and fundamental needs within local communities. The proposed project will initially focus on the provinces of Aden, Marib, Taiz, and Lahij, with an estimated budget of $1.5 million allocated for its implementation.

Project Objectives and Next Steps

During the meeting, UN representatives outlined the project’s objectives, expected outcomes, and a national roadmap for action. They also discussed specific plans for the targeted provinces as part of the initial phase. The UN officials expressed their gratitude to the Ministry of Local Administration for its ongoing cooperation and coordination.

 

This collaborative initiative reflects a commitment to building sustainable development frameworks in Yemen. By addressing local governance and community needs, the project aims to create a positive impact in the targeted provinces, fostering resilience and growth in a challenging environment.
