A meeting in Aden addresses the fulfillment of domestic gas needs for the provinces.

Meeting Addresses Gas Supply Needs in Southern Yemen

A joint meeting took place today in the temporary capital of Aden, focusing on securing and meeting the gas supply needs for the provinces of Aden, Lahij, Abyan, and Al-Dhale.

Key Participants and Challenges Discussed

The meeting included several key figures: Dr. Saeed Al-Shamasi, Minister of Oil and Minerals; Ahmed Lamlas, Minister of State and Governor of Aden; and the governors of Lahij, Abyan, and Al-Dhale—Major General Ahmed Al-Turki, Major General Abu Bakr Hussein, and Major General Ali Maqbel, respectively. Also present were Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Salem Salman, General Manager of the Yemeni Oil and Gas Corporation Mohammed Thabet, Executive Director of the Yemeni Gas Company Engineer Mohsen Wahit, and representatives from central gas stations.

Participants discussed the challenges and issues affecting the stability of local markets for household gas.

Importance of Market Stability

The meeting emphasized the critical need for stable local markets for household gas. Participants agreed on the importance of delivering gas at the official price set by the Yemeni Gas Company, in coordination with local authorities and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Commitment to Addressing Supply Issues

Dr. Al-Shamasi praised the efforts of local authorities and the Yemeni Gas Company in their ongoing quest to meet market demands, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. He highlighted the ministry’s commitment to collaborating with local authorities to overcome challenges and address the increased demand for household gas. This surge in demand has resulted from the diversion of gas supplies for vehicle fueling.

Proposed Mechanisms for Stability

The Minister of Oil and Minerals stressed the need for a reliable operational mechanism to ensure market stability for household gas. This approach will involve close coordination with local authorities and the Ministry of Industry. Additionally, a monitoring team from the Yemeni Gas Company, along with representatives from local authorities and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, will conduct inspections at central stations and major consumers. They will compile reports from these visits and implement strict measures against non-compliant stations, including the closure of unlicensed facilities.

This meeting marks a significant step toward ensuring a consistent and reliable gas supply for the southern provinces of Yemen, addressing both current challenges and future needs.
