The human rights organization, Equality for Rights and Freedoms, has condemned the horrific murder of Abdulmalik Ahmed Fadel Al-Azraq. The incident occurred in the Wusab Al-Safil district of Dhamar Governorate, where the victim suffered torture and was dragged through the streets. His family faced threats that prevented them from assisting him until he tragically lost his life, according to reports from the Yemeni News Agency (Saba).
According to the organization’s statement, a Houthi supervisor known as “Abu Hussein” and several of his associates brutally assaulted Al-Azraq until he lost consciousness. They then dragged him in front of onlookers and forcibly transported him to a militia checkpoint in the “Thuluth” market. During this ordeal, armed threats barred his family from intervening to save him.
The organization has received a video that captures the final moments of Al-Azraq’s life, showcasing the extreme violence inflicted upon him. This act represents a blatant violation of national laws and international agreements. It highlights a systematic pattern of oppression against civilians in areas controlled by the Houthis.
Equality for Rights and Freedoms urges the United Nations, its special envoy to Yemen, and the international community to take responsibility. The organization demands serious pressure to halt these violations and calls for the documentation of this crime. They insist that it be included in the list of severe violations against civilians.
This tragic event underscores the urgent need for accountability and protection of human rights in Yemen.
