A distinguished military delegation, including Major General Yahya Salah, Commander of the Fifth Military Region, Major General Khaled Abu Al-Qasim, Commander of the Twelfth Brigade in the Sudanese Army, and Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Shamrani, Commander of Force 800, recently visited the “Masam” mine clearance project in the Midi district of Hajjah Governorate.
During the visit, Engineer Osama Al-Qusaibi, the project director, provided a comprehensive presentation on the field teams’ operations. He highlighted their achievements in clearing landmines and explosive devices planted by Houthi militias in civilian areas. Al-Qusaibi emphasized that the project, funded by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, aims to fulfill its humanitarian goal of achieving a “Life Without Mines.”
The delegation explored the project’s human and technical capabilities. They observed a demonstration of the “Masam 1” mine-clearing machine and toured the new facility, which opened in August. This site spans 90,000 square meters and includes administrative and residential offices.
The military leaders commended the high level of professionalism exhibited by the project. They recognized it as a pioneering humanitarian initiative that contributes to restoring normalcy in local communities and saving thousands of lives from the dangers of landmines.
Major General Yahya Salah expressed his gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its leadership, government, and people for their continuous support of humanitarian efforts in Yemen. He noted that “Masam” serves as a unique model for ensuring the safety and mobility of civilians.
Since the project’s inception in Midi in September, it has successfully cleared 5,649 landmines, explosive devices, and unexploded ordnance. The total area cleared has reached 597,042 square meters.
