A documentary in Geneva showcases the torture methods used by Houthis against detainees.

Documentary "Sanaa's Saydnaya" Premieres in Geneva

A powerful documentary titled “Sanaa’s Saydnaya” premiered in Geneva, Switzerland, during the 58th session of the Human Rights Council. This film highlights the harrowing experiences of former detainees released from prisons controlled by the Iran-backed Houthi militia.

Harrowing Testimonies of Torture

The documentary presents a series of testimonies from both male and female detainees, detailing the brutal torture they endured. The methods of abuse closely resemble those inflicted on prisoners at Syria’s Saydnaya prison.

Witnesses in the film recount horrific experiences, including flogging, electric shocks, and severe burns. They also describe the insertion of sharp objects into their bodies, along with deprivation of sleep, food, and medical care. These accounts reveal the systematic and inhumane treatment that the Houthi militia has inflicted on all captives within their facilities.

Alarming Death Toll in Houthi Prisons

The documentary further documents the tragic reality of over 600 detainees who have died in Houthi prisons due to systematic torture. The film identifies 177 official and unofficial prisons operated by the militia, where various forms of torture are routinely practiced. Reports indicate that more than 400 detainees have been confirmed dead, with many more cases likely unreported.

“Sanaa’s Saydnaya” serves as a crucial reminder of the ongoing human rights violations in Yemen. By shedding light on these atrocities, the documentary aims to raise awareness and prompt action from the international community. As the situation continues to evolve, it remains imperative to advocate for the rights and dignity of all individuals affected by such violence.
