President Alimi Meets German Officials to Strengthen Bilateral Relations
On Monday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed Tobias Tunkel, the German Foreign Ministry’s Special Envoy for the Middle East and North Africa, and Thomas Schneider, the German Ambassador to Yemen. The meeting focused on enhancing German support for Yemen and discussing the longstanding bilateral relations between the two nations.

During the meeting, President Alimi emphasized the importance of developing relations across various sectors. He highlighted Germany’s and Europe’s priorities in bolstering the Yemeni government’s capacity to maintain security, stability, and peace-building efforts.

President Alimi praised Germany’s supportive stance towards Yemen’s unity and stability. He commended Berlin’s contributions to the humanitarian response plan, noting that Germany ranks among the largest European donors. The President also reviewed recent internal developments following the successful transfer of military camps. He described this move as a corrective step aimed at unifying security and military decisions to prevent the country from descending into chaos. Alimi asserted that these measures would help stabilize the internal situation, create a better environment for institutional operations, facilitate aid flow, and restore international trust.
Addressing Misinformation and Security Concerns
Alimi addressed misleading narratives that justified unilateral actions in Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra under the pretext of combating terrorism. He stated that supporting militias outside state control does not combat terrorism; rather, it perpetuates it. The President warned that security chaos and multiple power centers create fertile ground for extremist groups to thrive.
Warning Against Escalating Tensions
The President cautioned against any attempts to expand areas of tension or create new threats to the security of neighboring countries or maritime routes. He stressed that such actions pose a direct threat to global energy security and supply chains, which could quickly impact navigation safety in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab.
Commending Saudi Arabia’s Role
President Alimi reiterated his appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s leadership role since Operation Decisive Storm, through the Restoration of Hope, and ongoing de-escalation efforts. He acknowledged that Saudi Arabia has defended international legitimacy and has shouldered significant political and humanitarian burdens for the stability of Yemen and the region.

Alimi emphasized that the current moment presents a crucial opportunity for the international community to engage with a reliable partner and accountable institutions.
