In a significant event today, Dr. Qassem Bahibeh, the Minister of Public Health and Population, inaugurated the annual review meeting for the Health and Nutrition Program in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen. This meeting, organized by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with UNICEF, aims to assess the progress and challenges within the health sector.
Overview of the Meeting
The two-day meeting brings together 91 directors from health offices, primary healthcare, health education, and nutrition across liberated provinces. Participants will discuss the recommendations from the semi-annual and annual reviews for 2023. They will also update the progress made in the annual health work plan for 2024 and outline priorities for health and nutrition for 2025. Additionally, the meeting will cover the community-based primary healthcare strategy and advancements in the emergency human capital project.
Minister’s Remarks on Health Achievements
During the opening session, Minister Bahibeh congratulated healthcare workers on their successes in primary healthcare programs. He emphasized the need to expand services offered at health facilities at the district level while ensuring quality. The Minister acknowledged several challenges the ministry is addressing, including vaccination requirements for pilgrims.
Focus on Performance Improvement
Dr. Bahibeh stressed the importance of enhancing performance and efficiency in health facilities. He called for active evaluation and monitoring of performance to strengthen operations. Furthermore, he announced preparations for the first health system conference, which will focus on discussing issues within the health sector and developing solutions. This conference will feature local and international experts.

Dr. Ali Al-Walidi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Primary Healthcare, explained that the meeting aligns with the Ministry’s strategy to evaluate all health programs in collaboration with UNICEF. He noted the importance of provincial participation in the meeting to identify solutions to existing problems and assess achievements. This gathering also serves as a precursor to the upcoming health system conference scheduled for the second half of this month.
