Deputy Chief of Staff Discusses Yemen's Situation with French Ambassador

In a recent meeting, Major General Ahmed Al-Basheer, the Deputy Chief of Staff of Yemen’s Armed Forces, engaged in discussions with French Ambassador to Yemen, Catherine Colonna, and Military Attaché Major Junaid Joudi. The conversation focused on the evolving situation in Yemen, highlighting ongoing security challenges.

Ongoing Houthi Violations

The meeting addressed the persistent attacks and violations carried out by the Iran-backed Houthi militia against military positions and civilian areas across various provinces. These actions continue to threaten the stability and safety of the Yemeni population.

Readiness of Armed Forces

During the discussion, which included key military figures such as Major General Mohammed Al-Shaari, Commander of Military Police, and Major General Naji Abbas, Deputy Chief of Operations, Major General Al-Basheer emphasized the readiness of the armed forces. He stated that they remain prepared to counter any reckless actions by the Houthi militia. He also asserted that any peace agreement with such a group must ensure the restoration of the state and its institutions, in line with previously agreed-upon frameworks.

Threats to Maritime Security

Major General Al-Basheer further highlighted the Houthi militia’s ongoing assaults in the Red Sea, which pose a significant threat to maritime security in the region. He noted that the Iranian regime continues to supply and smuggle weapons to the militia, exacerbating the conflict.

French Support for Yemen

In response, Ambassador Colonna condemned the repeated Houthi attacks on civilians, citing the recent assault on a market in Maqbana, Taiz. She reaffirmed France’s commitment to supporting Yemen and its efforts towards achieving a lasting peace.

This dialogue underscores the urgent need for international cooperation to address the challenges facing Yemen and to promote a stable and peaceful future for its people.
