Protests Demand Lifting of Houthi Siege on Taiz
Two protests took place outside the White House and the U.S. Congress, calling for the lifting of the Houthi siege on the city of Taiz. The demonstrators also condemned the attacks carried out by Houthi militias against civilians, facilities, and civilian properties.
Urgent Action Needed from U.S. and International Community
Participants in the protests, held under the slogan “Taiz Calls You… Do Not Fail Its Children,” included Yemenis, activists, and supporters. They emphasized the need for urgent action from the U.S. administration, Congress, the United Nations, and the international community to pressure for an end to the siege, open the roads, and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, medical supplies, food, and fuel. They also called for an end to assaults on civilians and civilian facilities.
Condemnation of Houthi Attacks
The protesters expressed their condemnation of Houthi attacks on medical facilities, ambulances, and residential neighborhoods. They highlighted the bombings of Aden and Al-Riyan airports in Mukalla, stressing the importance of protecting civilian facilities and vital services while shielding civilians from the consequences of these attacks.
Humanitarian Responsibility and International Support
The participants stated that their actions stem from a humanitarian and national responsibility. They asserted that the suffering in Taiz requires an international stance that goes beyond mere statements of condemnation to practical steps that end the siege and guarantee civilians their right to life, security, and dignity.
Highlighting the Humanitarian Crisis in Taiz
Protesters displayed banners and slogans reflecting the suffering of Taiz residents due to the ongoing siege. They urged the U.S. administration, Congress, and the international community to take serious action to end the humanitarian crisis and protect civilians.
The protests shed light on the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Taiz and its rural areas, where more than three and a half million people face extremely difficult living and health conditions due to the continued siege, road closures, and shortages of food, medicine, and fuel. This situation poses a threat to the lives of patients and children and disrupts essential medical services.
