Emergency Committee Meeting in Taiz Addresses Security and Humanitarian Issues
The Emergency Committee in Taiz Governorate held an extensive meeting chaired by Governor Nabil Shamsan to discuss various issues related to security, services, and humanitarian conditions in the province.
Field Visits and Citizen Needs
Governor Shamsan emphasized the importance of ongoing field visits to assess the situation of citizens and monitor their needs for food supplies and essential services. He highlighted the necessity of enhancing coordination with relevant authorities to ensure these needs are met. The meeting included several civil, military, and security leaders.
Food and Medical Supplies Assessment
The committee reviewed the status of food and medical supplies, as well as the conditions of hospitals and health facilities. They addressed the overall humanitarian situation amid the ongoing siege and bombardment by Houthi militias on the city of Taiz.
Challenges Facing Waste Management
The meeting also examined the challenges facing the Waste Management and Improvement Fund. The committee identified the risks faced by sanitation workers during the transportation of waste to the temporary dump site in the Al-Dabab area, along with the consequences of disrupted waste removal operations.
Resumption of Waste Removal Operations
The Emergency Committee approved the resumption of waste removal operations. They noted that Taiz has relied on the temporary dump in Al-Dabab for over eleven years due to the militias’ obstruction of access to the main dump at the Sharab intersection. The committee considered the blockade preventing garbage trucks from reaching the Al-Saleh Gardens dump as further evidence of the ongoing siege on the city.
Collaborative Efforts for Public Health
The committee stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to address service and humanitarian challenges, maintain public health, and mitigate environmental risks threatening the city’s residents.
